4th and 5th periods - L.A. & S.S.

1. Today you will be taking the Benchmark #2 during both periods. 
Ms. Prestridge will come in during these periods to explain which one you are doing and to help answer any questions you may have.

2. If you get done early, you may read an AR book. If you don't have one you may borrow one from the classroom library. 

HW: Read 30 mins and continue working on any missing assignments. It's better to turn in things late for some points taken off than to receive a ZERO!

4th period - L.A.
Announcements: 
New Reading log for the week is up in your Language Arts Google Classroom. 

1. Share your 250 word Winter Break essay with a classmate. Be sure to read through your classmate's essay. Proofread for punctuation and grammar mistakes but also, more importantly, provide them with positive feedback to help them improve their story.  

1. Share your essay with at least 2 different people. 
2. What things should you be looking for as your read your classmate's work? If something is unclear to you, ask about it. If you can think of a more descriptive or precise word to use, suggest it. If your partner made a basic mistake with capitalization, spelling, or punctuation, point it out. 
3. There are a couple of ways to make suggestions and comments. You can use the "Suggesting" function within Google Docs, where you can make suggested edits that the writer can then later accept or reject. 
4. Secondly, you could also simply highlight text and make comments and suggestions that way.
5. Finally, your peer editing should include a balance of corrections, suggestions, and compliments. Positive feedback is important too!
6. If you haven't done the 250 word essay, guess what? You still need to do it. You will be docked points for it being late!

FINAL Draft DUE: Wednesday, January, 27, 2016.

2. Today we will begin reading The Circuit by Francisco Jimenez. Before we start reading, make a prediction about what the story will be about. What led you to think about your prediction? As we read pay close attention to vocabulary, big ideas, and key understandings. We will discuss all of these as a class and/or work on independent activities to help us better understand the story.  

Homework: Read 30 mins. and work on any classwork that's past due or that will be due.
