Language Arts

1. Independent Reading for Fifteen Minutes.

2. Today we read the chapter "Learning the Game" (pgs. 84-95) of The Circuit. As we read the chapter, we will stop to discuss the text.

3. If there is time, you will imput more vocabulary words to your list. Can be found in your Google Classroom.

Social Studies

1. CNN News Today they will discuss about a river of garbage in Lebanon and the reason why we have "leap" years.

2. Check your Progress. Answer questions from Section 1: "The Origins of Buddhism" these can be found in your Google Classroom.

3. If there is time, work on vocabulary for section 1. Can be found in your Google Classroom.

1. CNN Student News - "A U.S. detention facility in Cuba, a water crisis that's impacting New Delhi, and a ride aboard a spaceflight simulator are all discussed this Wednesday".

2. Watch this short clip - It's an introduction to Buddhism

3. Study Guide for Ch. 8 Section 1 - The Development of Buddhism -> can be found in your Social Studies Google Classroom. 

Tuesday: 02/23/16

4th per. - Language Arts

1. Guided Reading Activity - Read Cotton Sack chapter in The Circuit. 

2. If you finish early, you may read quietly at your desk. No games! Or you may work on a late/missing assignment. 

HW: Read at least 30 minutes at home and IF you have missing assignments you should work on some as well. 


5th per. - Social Studies

1. CNN Student News - "A deadline approaches in a case between the U.S. government and Apple, a French law targets food waste, and a Character Study features a young cancer survivor".

2. Chapter 7 - Hinduism Quiz

3. If you finish early, you may quietly read a book OR NewsELA article OR work on a late/missing assignment.

3. Journal Write -> Please access it by going to your Language Arts Google Classroom. 

4. Guided Reading Activity - We will continue along and read the next chapter in The Circuit Cotton Shack. 

HW: Read at least 30 mins. at home. If you didn't finish your Journal Write assignment please do so for homework. Also, continue working on any late/missing assignments. 



5th per. - Social Studies
1. CNN Student News - "A historic cyclone strikes Fiji, a mountain of trash towers over Mumbai, researchers try to document Grevy's zebras, and we update the U.S. presidential race".

2. Study Hall period - you will have a quiz tomorrow! We will take the rest of the period to wrap up any questions and assignments for Chapter 7 - Hinduism.

Friday: 02/19/16

4th per. - Language Arts
Announcements: 1.) Reading Log entry for this week is due tonight before midnight! Make sure you do one submission! 2.) Progress Reports are going out, a lot of you still have/had a lot of zeros - make sure you are taking responsibility in doing any missing assignments!

1. Read the next chapter Death Forgiven in The Circuit.

2. Academic Free Choice - you have the rest of the period to work on ANY current OR missing assignment OR reading log OR all! Use this time wisely! 

HW: Read at least 30 mins. at home and turn in missing assignments if you haven't done so!

1. CNN Student News - "European Union leaders meet in Belgium, we explore a potential divide in the U.S. Supreme Court, and we visit states holding nominating contests this Saturday".

1. Library - make sure to bring your library books and student ID card with you.

2. Independent Reading - you may read your library books or borrow a book from the classroom library.

3. Autobiography Project

HW: Read at least 30 mins. at home. Complete any assignments from this week. If you have missing assignments, YOU HAVE HOMEWORK!

5th per. - Social Studies

1. CNN Student News - Today's show covers tension in the South China Sea, a controversial case involving a terrorist's iPhone, and a Pacific fault that concerns American scientists.

2. Watch this interview with Sanjay Patel, an Indian American artist who works at Pixar and invented the short film, "Sanya's Superteam". 

3. Read How Ganesh Got His Elephant Head p. 202-203. Once you are done, there is an assignment that goes with this reading in your Social Studies Google Classroom folder.

HW: Complete any work from the week. If you are missing assignments, you definitely have homework!
